CHRISTMAS CONCERT
The Chamber Singers of Wheeling Jesuit University
will present a concert of Christmas music Saturday evening, December
6th, at 7:00p.m., in the sanctuary of St. Francis Xavier Church, 610
Jefferson Avenue, (corner of 7th Street and Jefferson Avenue)
Moundsville, WV.
The concert program for December 9th consists of a
series of short groupings of choral and solo literature of the season,
including favorites such as “O Holy Night, “ “The Holly and the Ivy,”
and “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen.” Solo offerings in the program
include John Jacob Niles beautiful Appalachian carol, “Jesus, Jesus,
Rest Your Head,” Alfred Burt’s classic, “Some Children See Him,” and
Gilbert Martin’s “The Jesus Gift.” Contemporary settings include Amy
Grant’s “Breath of Heaven,” and Buddy Greene’s “Mary, Did You Know?”
A short selection of audience carols will be
included for participation. The program will conclude with a
sing-along-style “Hallelujah Chorus” for anyone wishing to participate.
Director, Robert Troeger, has taught as an adjunct
professor at WJU since 1989, and has served as Music Director and
Organist of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Wheeling for the past 18
years. He is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, The Cleveland
Institute of Music, and Yale University.
This program is hosted by the Strand Theatre
Preservation Society and offered as a Christmas gift to the community.
While there is no charge for admission, donations will be accepted.
